Victory College Prep, a public K-12 charter school on Indianapolis’ southeast side, received new equipment for its media center with funding from the CFP Foundation and the Indianapolis Host Committee. Together with the CFP Foundation’s education partner School Specialty, teachers were provided with resources they need to prepare their students for success, including iPads and other tablets, virtual reality headsets, books, a projector, a 75-inch TV monitor and a Bluetooth speaker system. New furniture including makerspace tables, height adjustable tables and chairs, soft seating, and mobile bookcases were also provided as part of the makeover.
In support of the CFP Foundation and its mission to uplift teachers grades K-12, the 2022 Indianapolis Host Committee has committed $1.5 million of investment in legacy programming leading up to the 2022 national championship game, to be held at Lucas Oil Stadium on Monday, January 10.
In addition to school makeovers, the CFP Foundation and Indianapolis Host Committee are making an impact on the Indianapolis community by supporting resources for parents, teachers and students to navigate eLearning; building efforts to attract and retain diverse teachers; and partnering with the Indiana Department of Education to celebrate teachers as heroes following a difficult pandemic year.
“Having access to cutting-edge technology and other equipment makes a remarkable difference in motivating and inspiring our students and teachers, who, like all of us, have faced challenges in light of COVID-19,” said Ryan Gall, executive director of Victory College Prep. “As we settle into the 2021 school year, being able to learn and engage in an updated media center provides a huge morale boost. We’re grateful to the CFP Foundation and Indianapolis Host Committee for their support in empowering our students with the academic and social-emotional skills to thrive in college or a career.”
Victory College Prep teachers and students celebrated the media center makeover during an event at the school today as part of Extra Yard for Teachers Week, a week-long celebration of educators nationwide. Teachers will also be honored through events such as the Extra Yard 5K, Extra Yard for Teachers Summit and other activations and events during the national championship game weekend in January.
“We’re thrilled to be able to give back to the Indianapolis community by transforming school spaces with enhanced technology to meet the demands of 21st century teaching and learning,” said Britton Banowsky, executive director of the CFP Foundation. “We look forward to continuing to celebrate educators this week and beyond as we prepare for the big game in January.”
Victory College Prep is among four Indianapolis-area schools selected for media center makeovers based upon need and student demographics. Additional makeovers are planned at Garden City Elementary and James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy later this year, while the first makeover at Southport Middle School was unveiled in April.
